Forms of Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

This approach focuses 1. identifying maladaptive thought patterns, 2. determining if one’s thoughts are realistic, or could be viewed in a different way, and 3. challenging one’s thought patterns. Change takes place in responding differently to situations negatively affecting one’s mental health.

Person-Centered

Relies on unconditional positive regard for the client. Creating an atmosphere filled with empathy, understanding, and acceptance with a complete lack of judgment increases the client’s confidence to increase to the point of achieving positive results.

Strength-Based

In an effort to relieve emotional mental distress, it can be helpful to focus on one’s strengths. Discovering, or re-discovering, one’s beneficial qualities leads to improved resilience and a more positive mindset. Coming from a place of inner strength allows one to more confidently problem-solve.

Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.
